Our generators are currently wind and hydro plants. They supply us with clean, renewable electricity which we sell on to our customers. We buy renewable power that is owned by communities, co-operatives or citizens, and sell that electricity to our customers. You can watch some of their stories below.
We are relatively unique in Ireland because we offer medium sized generators the opportunity to trade on the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM). If you have a renewable generator, approximately 50 Kw or greater and you would like to sell your power to Community Power, we can offer a fair Power Purchase Agreement. Or, if your energy community is exploring ‘on site’ renewable generation, and have a requirement for a licenced supply company, we can help.
Our future generation projects will be solar. We are delighted to have been awarded two community solar parks in the first auction of the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS1). And again in 2022, in RESS 2 – 2 more 100% community owned solar parks have been awarded. This scheme provides support for the sale of solar electricity to the Irish market for the first time with a specific community preference category. Ownership of these community preference projects will be open to the communities and citizens of Ireland, with priority to those living nearby, to allow all to share in the returns and benefits of renewable energy. We are hoping many more community projects will follow in the years to come.
