The term Microgeneration relates to small-scale generation of electricity from renewable technologies such as, but not limited to, small wind turbines or Solar PV installations. This renewable generation predominately relates to installations such as Solar PV on your roof. The majority of energy produced will be used to power your home, however when there is surplus generation you can export this to the grid and receive credit towards your electricity bill for it.

Clean Export Guarantee (CEG)

The Irish Government announced the Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) scheme early in 2022 which allows eligible customers with microgeneration technologies installed to sell excess electricity they generate back to the grid and receive credit for this excess. The key criterion for eligibility is that your renewable generation device is connected to the grid for export. This normally forms part of the installation process and the installation technician submitting an NC6 form to ESB Networks on your behalf.
