A new platform for selling and trading renewable electricity is on the horizon, and is due to be developed over the next few years with blockchain-enabled software which will enable peer to peer energy trading among citizens, communities and co-operatives.
On March 5th, the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment debated the Microgeneration Support Scheme Bill. The bill would force energy providers to buy electricity produced by 'microgenerators' including small communities, clubs and schools.
